Reading in 4th Grade
Students will participate in a Reader’s Workshop format. Each day, students will get a focused lesson on comprehension strategies, reading fluently and accurately, or exploring interesting vocabulary words. Students will read as a whole group, in small groups, with partners, and individually. Students will also meet with me for individualized instruction in reading. Reading for at least 30 minutes a night is a MUST for success in 4th grade!
When students read, they should be using the following comprehension strategies to help them understand the text:
*asking questions *making connections *visualizing *determining important events *predicting *making inferences In order to engage in deep thinking about texts, students will be doing several reading responses as well as have discussions about a text with their peers on a frequent basis. |
